Example of Logical Fallacy #2

In this advertisement for Windows and PCs, the logical fallacy of the bandwagon is being used. The advertisement commits this fallacy by showing that all types of people around the world use PCs, not Macs, and that viewer should too. The ad doesn't give much information about Windows or PCs; rather, it just shows the viewer that everyone else uses PCs so why not join them and buy a PC too?

  1. The use of bandwagon is very apparent in this commercial. The advertisers even got celebrities, such as Eva Longoria to appear in this as well. The use of famous people contributes to the logical fallacy even more so, because they help spur people to "jump on the bandwagon" as a result of their status in society. Thus, this commercial just distracts people from inquiring about the computer's qualifications, which may or may not actually be inferior to Macs.

  2. The commercial is effective because it has people from all different backgrounds, ethnicities, ages...etc say that they are a PC in order to try to have the audience connect with at least with one of the people in the commercial. However, this is a logical fallacy because just because a lot of people use a product does not prove anything about the product besides that it is popular.

  3. This is a very apparent use of bandwagon for it shows all the varieties of people who use a pc and not a mac. It is a fallacy because it does not attempt to disscuss the abilities of a pc it just aims to get people to "be" a pc because it's the thing to do

  4. Yes this commercial tries to appeal to a wide range of people. This can be seen with the use of many people from a range of different ethnicities, nationalities, occupations, and backgrounds. This large group of people is supposed to influence the audience to jump on the background. It does not present any information about the actual computer in relation to macs.
